Rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging network InstaVolt has announced the start of its official operations in Iceland with the construction of its first charging hub in the country.

Comprising 20 rapid electric vehicle (EV) chargers, the hub will be situated at Aðaltorg Courtyard Marriott hotel, Keflavik Airport, not far from Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital and popular tourist destination. The new hub will be the largest charging location in Iceland.

With nearly 80% of tourists renting cars while visiting Iceland, car rental companies are making commitments to include EVs in their fleets, encouraging tourist EV adoption to support the green transport transition, which is integral to reaching Iceland’s sustainability goals. InstaVolt’s first charging location in Iceland will provide infrastructure to support this uplift.

The charging provider hopes that the site will encourage more visitors to choose electric when renting cars to support Iceland’s climate goals.

“InstaVolt has successfully installed over 1,000 InstaVolt charging stations across the UK and has cemented itself as one of the most reliable providers in the EV charging space,” said Adrian Keen, CEO at InstaVolt.

“We’re looking forward to working with local partners and Iceland’s skilled workers to produce a charging infrastructure for Iceland’s residents who have already taken on the EV revolution, while also encouraging tourists around the world to take important steps to tackling climate change through EV use while travelling abroad.”

InstaVolt has installed around 1,000 charging devices in the UK.

InstaVolt Iceland aims to install over 200 chargers in total across the country to support Iceland’s mission to achieve carbon neutrality before 2040 and to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030.

InstaVolt Iceland chargers will be powered by 100% renewable energy – as they are in the UK. You can find all of InstaVolt’s UK charging locations on Zap-Map by using the network filter, which can be accessed via the app or desktop map – charging types and speeds can be filtered too, showing only those points that are compatible with your EV.
