Electric vehicle charging specialist Mer has announced a partnership with DX Group plc, a provider of delivery solutions, including parcel freight, secure courier, 2-Man and logistics services.

Recently DX Freight announced an initial £750,000 investment programme to electrify vehicles, dedicated to one of its most valued customers, with the first phase launching in their Southampton and Warrington depots.

DX required an EV charging infrastructure partner who could provide consultancy, support and aftercare to underpin its plans.

“Our vehicles are business-critical assets that are key to delivering the consistently high level of service we provide to our customers,” said Paul Ibbetson, Managing Director of DX Freight.

“We therefore needed an EV charging partner who understood our business and wanted to support us, as we progress into a more sustainable electric fleet. Mer ticked all our boxes and we look forward to working with them in the future.”

As part of the consultancy, Mer have conducted a full audit and surveys of all 87 depots, to ascertain and advise on any energy constraints, to ensure all electric vehicles are fully charged overnight. As a result, Mer has installed 7kW fast chargers from Alfen.

Zap-Pay partner Mer is also bringing charging to rural areas of the UK, one such area being Durham. Since 2019, Mer has worked with Durham County Council under the SOSCI (scaling on-street charging infrastructure) project. In this instance, the fact that rural communities in the area were lacking in EV charge points was hindering the uptake of EVs.

Working with the Council, Mer installed over 150 charge points in Durham across four projects. Its work with Durham has been hugely successful, as evidenced in the council receiving the 2022 Best EV Charging Project award from the Municipality Journal.
