Tesla CCS Adapter Price Drop to $175: Benefit for EV owners

Since overnight tesla ccs adapter are  reduced to just $175, most Tesla owners now find it relatively simple to use any DC fast charging station.

The adaptor, which was formerly $250, is now 25% less expensive, but the company isn’t promoting the price as a bargain, so it’s possible that the lower price is actually a new one. Moreover, the cost decreased to $240 from $340 in Canada.

  • Tesla did temporarily lower the cost of its home chargers last month before raising it again.
  • Lectron, a manufacturer of inexpensive charging accessories, sells a similar adaptor for $189.99, although it’s unclear whether this is what led to the price reduction.
  • Prices for Tesla vehicles have also fluctuated over the past few weeks as the automaker struggles with changing inventories and incentives around the world.
  • The adaptor is not available to all Tesla owners. Certain pre-2020 vehicles need a refit, which Tesla has proposed but hasn’t started putting into practice yet.
  • The cost of the necessary retrofit for older Tesla vehicles to use the CCS adaptor and use other charging stations has been disclosed by Tesla.

Tesla ccs adapter has been striving to make its Supercharger network in North America accessible to non-Tesla electric vehicles for the past year. Tesla owners are concerned about this since it will result in more people using the Supercharger stations. Also, since most non-Tesla charging stations feature CCS connectors, it doesn’t work both ways since Tesla owners cannot use them.

  • Tesla hinted that a CCS1 adaptor would be released in 2020, but for some reason it was only available in Korea.
  • Tesla unveiled the $250 CCS adaptor in North America late last year after two years of waiting.
  • Not all Tesla owners had access to the adapter, though. Tesla vehicles manufactured before October 2020 have an incompatible charging ECU that will require retrofitting in order for it to function with the adapter.
  • The company initially announced the adaptor last year and stated that the upgrade would be available in 2023 without providing a price.

Tesla has now included the cost of the retrofit, and it is not minimal. Although Tesla last week lowered the price of the tesla ccs adapter to $175, which is helpful, if your car was manufactured before October 2020, you will still need to pay $450 for both the converter and the new charging ECU.

In the United States and Canada, Tesla has dramatically lowered the cost of the CCS Combination 1 (CCS1) charging adaptor.

The adaptor enables Tesla vehicles—which come standard with the company’s exclusive charging inlet, NACS—to be charged at CCS1 chargers run by outside charging networks.

The cost was $250 at the time of its launch in September 2022 (sales in South Korea started in October 2021). Now that it is $175 (Minus $75 or 30% less), more Tesla drivers will likely get one just in case they need to utilize a CCS1 charger.

Drive Tesla Canada claims that the pricing in Canada has fell, from $340 to $240.

According to Tesla’s website, the device will be supplied within two weeks after order placing and it will enable to recharge at up to 250 kilowatts (kW) (kW).

Are you in the market for Tesla’s CCS Combo 1 Adapter? If so, please us know why you need it. Do you too believe that the $450 cost of the adapter and refit for earlier models is excessively high?
